White water river rafting-A captivating and a thrilling experience

'A healthy mind in a healthy body' is the the ultimate aim of of IB education. The main purpose of the Action component of CAS is to enable students to develop a healthy lifestyle.

The four key elements in leading a healthy lifestyle is exercise, healthy eating, making sensible decisions as well making good choices in life. Engaging in healthy habits with a positive attitude can deeply change a person's overall health and life expectancy. Indeed, one can  become a better individual developing confidence, which is a key ingredient to success. We are what we put into our bodies!

On 10 December 2011, the IBDP students headed to Kundalika river at Kolad, 138 kilometer from Mumbai on Goa Highway, for river rafting. It was a real task to wake up early in the morning and begin the journey at 5:00 am to reach Kolad at 8:00 am when the rafting trip starts. It is a spectacular location to experience the thrills, chills and spills of white water river rafting. Kundalika River’s 14-kilometre stretch of exciting ten rapids will provide one and a half hours white water rafting. Rafting through the river calls for extreme courage and bravery. Precisely speaking, the students will develop calculated risk-taking skills. Besides this, the other qualities that the students will be able to accomplish, are reflected upon by the students themselves in the following paragraphs:

Sunny Shah:

"I basically river-rafted a long distance, with the co-ordination of of my friends.  I hoped to accomplish my goal of overcoming my fear of deep water. I learnt that I could overcome my fear when I set my mind to it. I have adopted the on look to life that I can achieve anything I want, when I set my mind to it. I can apply my newly acquired knowledge about me achieving anything if I set my mind to it, to other scenarios in life and education, as well."

Shubham Lad:

"We were divided into two groups and were sent in two rafts. We interacted very well with everyone. I hope to    develop a skill of working as a team. Through this activity, I am confident that I can be a team leader and I developed team skills. Next time, I would like to go to Rishikesh for a more adventurous river rafting."

Good going Students!
