These children are awesome-Young Mumbai Run 2012

These children are awesome! They were determined to run for a very noble cause. On 12 February 2012, it was totally dark when I reached school to accompany the students to National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point to participate in the Young Mumbai Run 2012. To my surprise, most of them were already waiting in the school lobby. Rabindranath Tagore's beautiful poem flashed across my mind -
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action---
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
Therefore these children are absolutely awesome!
Young Mumbai Run 2012 was a well planned and organized event. There were separate enclosures for 2 km and 4 km runners. Glucon D and water were served to the runners. Concern India Foundation volunteers were present everywhere to guide students. The students were escorted to Nariman point by commandoes, volunteers and Concern India Foundation's representative. Police arrangements were made for controlling the traffic. The safety of the children was of utmost priority. The Run was kicked off by Mr A. B. K. Dubash, the Chairman of Concern India Foundation. Ms. Kavita Shah CEO, Ms. Nidhi Singh Director, Ms. Radhika Gulati Mumbai Branch Manager of the NGO were monitoring the event. The students were given a goodie bag as a parting gift.

On way back, I asked the students to describe their experience. Harshvardhan Upadhyay MYP 4, impromptu gave a rundown of his perspective:

Joy comes along when mind is stimulated. On Sunday 12 February , 2012, early in the morning at quarter past six, we the students of RBKIA – IBDP 1 & 2 and MYP 4 – Vineet, Firoze, Akash, Shrey, Siddhartha and I went to National Center Of Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point for participating in the Young Mumbai Run. It is a fun run, organized by an NGO-Concern India Foundation. The motto of the NGO is “Helping People Help Themselves”. It was a great feeling to help underprivileged children. It was accentuated when we found out that there were many children from various schools of Mumbai to run for the noble cause.
We are happy to get such an exposure of the world around us. It inspires us to support the education of the less fortunate children of our country and help them to become self-reliant and to lead a better life so that their dreams may come true.

  1. Concern India Foundation has this event every year. This event motivates School going students to large extent. This efforts success needs more students to participate in the event. Looking forward for RBK International support same way in years ahead
