On 24 January 2012, RBKIA PYP 4 students celebrated the 63rd Republic Day with the senior citizens of Manav Seva Sangh. It was a different and unique way of celebrating this day. The students put stickers of India flag to their dresses and distributed sweets. 24 january is a very special day for Priesha Sheth. It is her birthday. Her parents gifted blankets to all senior citizens out of their magnanimity. The children sang bhajans and patriotic songs. Ms Jetashree played harmonium. The senior citizens also sang bhajans. The PYP 4 children talked to them and shared their thoughts about Republic Day. In the end we all sang the National Anthem and called it a day.
The students also invited them to their school function. You may see their pictures below.
What a beautiful approach to interact with the senior citizens! As far as childrens' ages are concerned, there is a generation gap between them and the senior citizens. The values that they are imbibing through these activities are of immense significance - caring, open-minded, respect, compassion, commitment etc.
